2011-2012 Time Capsule...

So for my humanities class, I had to write a fun essay about 10 items I would chose to place in a time capsule for the years 2011-2012. Here is my essay:

I am creating a time capsule for the years 2011-2012. The ten objects I would choose to place in the capsule would be a newspaper showing who won the recent presidential election, a smart phone, awards from my daughters’ swim competition and soccer games, current pictures of my family and I, a stamp and current currency, a current celebrity news and gossip magazine, a gas receipt, my Pasco-Hernando College Student I.D., ticket stubs from a Tampa Bay Ray’s Baseball game, and Mickey Mouse ears from Disney World.
The reason I would put a newspaper in my time capsule, specifically showing who won the recent presidential election, is because our current President is so controversial. People either love him or hate him. He was also considered the first African-American President of the United States. So he is a very important person of our current times and history.
I would add a smart phone to the time capsule. In this current day and age, smart phones are an important part of most people’s daily lives. People take for granted,  this amazing technology that we are so very fortunate to have. Having the ability to call or text someone, or access the internet, at almost any location in the United States is still considered new technology. Cell phones in general have come a long way in such a short amount of time. These new pieces of technology will someday be old and outdated. So it would be a perfect object to add to a time capsule.
My daughter’s are my most prized possessions. During 2011-2012, my youngest daughter, who is now 8 years old, played on her first soccer team. She did an amazing job and she made me proud to be a "soccer mom". I would put one of her awards from soccer in the time capsule. My oldest daughter, who is now 12 years old, joined the Trinity YMCA’s swim team during 2011-2012. She competed in her first swim competition and won several ribbons. I couldn’t be more proud of her. I would put one of her winning ribbons in the time capsule.
I love photography. Photos representing our past and present history are so very important for our future generations. There’s nothing like seeing an old photo from our past. So I would go through my mass amounts of photos I have taken through 2011-2012, and pick my favorites to print out and put in the time capsule.
I would add a stamp, along with current currency to the time capsule. Stamps will one day be a thing of the past. Snail mail is becoming extinct. With the advances in technology, we now use e-mail, e-billing, and online shopping more than ever before. The only time I use stamps is to send a card to a friend or family member. But many people use e-cards now, instead of mailing cards. So a stamp would be great item to put in a time capsule, along with an explanation of how and what it was used for. Most of us also use credit and debit cards more than cash. So adding some current currency to the time capsule is important too. I would also add a receipt from filling up my car with gas, showing today’s gas prices. Hopefully in the future, we will have better, greener, more economic ways to run vehicles, rather than with gas.
The next item I would add to the time capsule would be a current celebrity news and gossip magazine, like People Magazine or US Weekly. Unfortunately I am drawn to those magazines, and enjoy reading them. But the reason I would add it to the time capsule would be because it would show our current modern day stars, fashion, and clothing styles. It would also show current popular tv shows, movies, and books.
I would add my PHCC Student I.D. to the time capsule because PHCC has been a huge part of my life these last couple of years. I graduate from PHCC in May, so PHCC is now going to become a part of my personal history, along with my family’s history. It would be a great memory to add to a time capsule.
Lastly, during 2011-2012, my family and I took a 3-day vacation to Disney World. It was the first time my daughters had been to Disney World, so it was a memorable experience for my family and I. We were able to visit all of the Disney parks in Orlando and had a blast! So I would put a pair of Mickey Mouse ears that we brought home with us, in the time capsule. I would also add ticket stubs from a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game to time capsule. My family and I love going to the baseball games. We have some great memories from the games during 2011-2012! This would be the last item I would add to my time capsule.

What items would you put in your time capsule for the years 2011-2012?
